Book Cover Beauties

We all try not to judge a book by its cover. But it’s hard not to gush at some of the gorgeous designs that’s being created. Being a visual person, it’s hard not to be drawn towards incredible book cover design.

I’m really enjoying the current trend towards using hand illustrated elements on book covers. The bold designs jump out from the book shelves, begging to be read. Most importantly, it’s great that book typography is being thought through, and not just squished on the front cover.

Certain book covers are even becoming collectables. Being republished with special edition covers. Publishers are going to great lengths to create beautiful covers. For example, the design on books like The Binding and theKing of Scars is beyond beautiful. And were used to great effect as selling points on their promotion upon release.

In celebration of all the beautiful book covers, I’ve rounded up a list of my favourite book covers new and old.

So, let’s take a look at my current favourite book covers.

Best Book Cover designs

Furyborn by Claire Legrand.

Tess of the Road.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber.

Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand.

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin.

The Cerulean by Amy Ewing.

An enchantment of ravens by Margaret Rogerson.

Vengeful by V.E.Schwab.

Red Queens by Victoria Aveyard.

The Antidote by Shelley Sackier.

As with most things, even book cover designs follow a trend, and it’s really interesting to watch as the trends in design change over the years. I love seeing the rise of typography and illustrated front covers into brilliant book design.

In addition, it’s exciting to see so many bold and powerful illustrations being popular for book cover designs. Especially when they incorporate beautiful type into the illustration.

I’m tempted to redesign and re-imagine book cover designs in my own art style.

Shall I give the classic a go, or redesign some newly released books?

Thanks for reading x
